EPISODE 11: MEHDI HASSAN – PART 1 & 2
Mehdi Hassan, Shahenshah-e-Ghazal, is a legend who tends to live on even after his death. His ghazals are not just music but magic. His contribution to the world of music and films is so immense that artists still enjoy the fruits of his art.
Mehdi Hassan was born on 18th July 1927, in India’s city, Jaipur. He was fortunate to be born to a traditional musical family where his father Azeem Khan and Uncle Gulam Kadar were respectable musicians and performers. They were permanent performers at the palace of Maharaja Baroda.
Mehdi Hassan’s father and uncle made sure that he was well trained and ready to perform at the palace with them. He was 6 years old when his father tuned a Tanpura and gave it to him to practice on it. From that day to his last day on earth, all he did was for the love of music.
These 2 parts of this episode of Monumentaries were the most difficult to put together for the Whiterock Entertainment team as Mehdi Hassan’s life and achievements cannot be summed into a few documentaries.
