‘Nightingale of India’ Lata Mangeshkar Jee is one of the most versatile singers in the Hindi film industry. On the date of September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was born to classical singer and theatre artist Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Her father started teaching her music at an early age.
Achievements: Lata Mangeshkar’s name was listed in the Guinness World Records as the most recorded artist in the world. She started her career in 1942 that has spanned over seven decades. Lata is said to have recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. She also has the credit of having sung in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages. Moreover, she was also honored with India’s highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, in 1989.
